Artist Statement

Patience. Care. Precision. Each of these qualities is associated with femininity and is integral to craft. My work is a reflection upon the process of making, the history of the feminine maker, and myself as both an artist and a contemporary feminine maker.
The processes of sewing, weaving, crochet, and embroidery are laborious tasks in which the hand as the well as the time of the maker become especially evident. Through this work I, as an artist, explore the burden of making and the imprint of the maker left upon each object as well as the power and importance that imprint lends to the object.
Taking influence from vintage fashion, burlesque, the history of craft, and the construction of femininity, each of these works explores material, structure, cultural constructs, and their interactions with one another.
